AKG C1000 "front" of polar pattern
What is the "front"? Is it right off the end, or is it down one of the sides (such as a large diaphram).
Can't seem to find it in user manuals...I'm assuming its off the end, just like a 58?

BNB is correct.
I've seen microphones classified in a couple of ways: "end-fire", where it picks up sound from the end of the microphone body, and "side-address", where the microphone picks up sound from the side of the body. I'm sure there are other "standards" out there; these are just what I know.
