tape stuck in tape deck - help! (not a joke!)

edit: turns out pressing record (the one button i hadn't pressed) ejected it. go figure.
feel free to delete this thread.

i've got a tape stuck in a boombox
it's stuck on play, and won't stop or eject
i can pause it, and i can unplug it
but neither disengages the playhead or whatever needs to happen for me to take the tape out
so what do i do? (helful answers only plz)
