I'd assume, having never done it something like a stacked cup set up. or a spring-screw device would do the trick. Is this general knowledge or are you looing for a design ?

I was just wondering how it was done. I was watching the advertising trailer the other day and saw it and was like how did they do that.

Ah ! No, I don't know how they do that specific gag, I would bet Pnuematics or a spring/screwdrive.
