Banner Ads

Don't get me wrong, I am glad that CB is getting some adds in, I hope that it generates some revenue, but I thought that one of the benefits of being a CBSupporter was not seeing banner ads. I have nothing against the companies that have ads up, in fact if I have to see ads I would rather see theirs. However, what makes a CBSupporter different now? Just that we can see the "Off Topic" Forum?

I enjoyed having a place on the web where I could come and not be bombarded by ads. It also kinda is a bummer that the ads are sending out requests to refresh every 30 seconds or so. Sure it doesn't really interrupt what you are looking at, but it does increase network traffic, and it is annoying to have banners blinking at you.

I realize that CB needs a way to support itself and advertising is a great way to do that. Is it possible to maybe stick the banners at the bottom of pages or maybe only have them on the main forum page and not in each forum?

A CB Supporter can have links and format his signature. They can access our Off-Topic Forum, they can upload more and larger files, they can upload more and larger pics, they have a larger allotment of Private Message space, and there are some other benefits coming soon.

I don't mind the ads, they're pretty relevant. Them automatically refreshing is bloody annoying though.

I concur. It seems to slow down my internet

My developer's version of FireFox stops pages from refreshing automatically.
A blue bar comes across the top of the tab that says Firefox prevented this page from automatically reloading.

It's another version of 3.0.4 that seems to have subtle differences.

Apparently it updated itself from the Beta.

In FF 3.x and up:

A checkbox labeled “Warn me when web sites try to redirect or reload the page” is located under “Tools → Options → Advanced → General → Accesibility”.

Otherwise, enter "about:config" for the url, and look for Accesibility.blockautorefresh and set the value to true.

that can be dangerous to set for certain sites that could have an autorefresh to show you the status of an upload, or your remaining wait time for a service or download....

Just FYI on that. It could break certain site functionality.

So, since the banner ads seem to be in to stay, is it at least possible to make it so that they don't have to refresh every 30 or so seconds? I would imagine it would take some load off your servers and it would be much less annoying. Can it be setup such that we just see a different ad every time we load a page? I don't mean to sound petty or whatnot, I am just looking for a more friendly interface.
