How about a software topic (sound cue playback, stage management tools, lighting offline editors etc.) I think this would be beneficial because it is an emerging field with now page of reference on the entire internet so far.

Then we should just all give up and go home. Though I understand the "why", the reality is that just about everything we discuss here could lead to injury and death. Just as we discuss electrical work, and fall protection, and power tools, and working at heights, rigging can be as safe or as dangerous. Every time we hang a light we're "rigging". Just want to open the discussion. Who/what do we really think we're protecting? If someone asks a question that is "90% of the way there" the I'm willing to help out. However, if someone asks a "I've got a car and some fishing line, how do I hang it," then I'm not going to offer any more help than "get someone with more knowledge." My $.02..... --Sean

Make sure you know what you are talking about when it pertains to Rigging, Power Distribution, or any potentially dangerous situation. More people are hurt or killed every year in showbiz accidents due to rigging or electricity mishaps than any other causes. If you are not 100 percent sure that the info you are posting about either subject is correct, then don't offer it up as fact. The members and management of Control Booth have expanded and redefined the above since its inception. Discussions of "how to" for rigging, electrical, and pyrotechnics are generally not permitted. To quote an even harsher TOS, from Mike Holt: This Forum is intended to assist professional electricians, inspectors, engineers, and other members of the electrical industry in the performance of their job-related tasks. However, if you are not an electrician or an electrical contractor, then we are not permitted to help you perform your own electrical installation work. Yes, there's a difference in the two forums' Mission Statements, but the end goal is the same: we want our members to remain alive and uninjured. Certain tasks in theatre should only be allowed to be performed by professionals. Since the majority of CB's members/readers are non-professionals, we have drawn a fuzzy, gray line
