Default Junior Team

Edit: This is only a suggestion and is up for hypothetical discussion only and may not ever eventuate.

There is a fair amount of activity that goes on around this forum and a lot of posts that go unpatrolled by our wonderful senior team. so i offer up the suggestion of a "junior team" of moderators that have simple powers such as being able to correct language and delete inappropriate posts but not give demerits and other stuff.

Not a good idea, do we really need to run around having all spelling and grammar corrected? I think we are fine the way we are. We arent big enough to have more then a handful of admins. When we do, I would suggest having a mod for each subject to patrol of their specific area, but thats a long way off, if eve

Hugh, I know you want to be a mod, but like anything, especially in this business, you can't jump to the front of the line just because you want to. Talk to any IA guy about that one.

The reason i push so hard for things like this is because right now i can't donate any money to control booth and i am only able to give my time. But before i would even dream of submitting a real proposal of a junior team to dvs i would want to flesh out the terms with the booth and senior members. so here is just a short list of ideas for criteria for this "Junior Team"
  • Members of the Group must be forum regulars and have at least two years of CB experience under their belt
  • Members of the Group must have a fair grasp on most technical arts areas in order to be able to provide correct feedback on a range of issues
  • Members must understand the terms of service and issues relating to TOS breaches *rigging, pyro*
  • Members must be recommended by a senior team member for their commitment and quality of infomation presented in the forum
  • Members must understand that joining a forum can be a hard process for some people and must be always polite and welcoming to all new and old members

Hughesie89, you should be commended for your desire to contribute to ControlBooth, in any way you can.

May I suggest, as one method, helping to expand our Glossary entries? Every time someone asks a question about a specialized term, add it to the Glossary once it has been defined. If one person asks, chances are good that there are many more out there wondering exactly what the term means.

As much as it may pain me personally to say it, I have to agree that we don't need every spelling and grammar error corrected, provided the meaning is clear. However, "Foccuss the Leico on the pysch" simply cannot be allowed to stand without comment! Rarely do Senior Team members edit others' posts for spelling or grammar. I have only done it for comedic results, or to correct what I feel is a grave error, such as "You must tie-in power live," when the poster clearly meant "You must not tie-in power live."

I have seen no instances of "a lot of posts that go un-patrolled" for inappropriate content, nor have I been informed of same. From the FAQ/Moderation: Any user who feels that a posted message is objectionable is encouraged to contact a member of the ControlBooth.com Senior Team immediately by PM or by using the "report post" feature on the site. We have the ability to remove objectionable messages and we will make every effort to do so within a reasonable period, if we determine that removal is necessary. This is a manual process however, so please realize that we may not be able to remove or edit particular messages immediately.

While I agree that we do perhaps need to add a new senior team member or two... there are several members who seem to have disappeared leaving a few to do the heavy lifting. I don't think we need some sort of second level of "citizens on patrol".

Secondly Derek's right you could be a HUGE force for good here on CB by taking up the Wiki as your pet project. There are SO many terms not in the Wiki. If you worked on just adding new topics to the list... you don't have to answer them in detail, just add them to the list. Then post a regular "Wiki Needs" report in the forums of the latest topics that need writing or developing. You don't have to be the expert, just organize the topics and let the other experts know what needs to be done. That would be Great!

I retract my previous suggestion for a "junior team" would a senior team member please close this thread as nothing else needs to be said, i might go have a look at the wiki but i think im best used in the new members forum.

I think it's time for more members of the senior team and often bring that up with recommendations as with outers who also that either at times become or not in doing so or not being recommended. Many have been on the debate for a few years and still very active and respected members. Others have over the years become less active and should be replaced by others more active.

Not sure if a junior team is needed though it has been discussed over the years.

Your thoughts in why and a need have been noted overall short of spelling police, how it works out is unknown but in helping the community it will be considered by DAve and discussed. Heck, even I'm less active and check into less than I did in the past.

A few valid points as with response in helping where you can and even if not ability to fix as it were, a constant ability to contact if you see something. Less direct police, more active members as it were.

On experience and or training... there is no certain standard - look at Dave the forum's creator that has a basic sensibility to him but no huge experience in the field or me with a moving light - blown up more than one and for the most part banned from that department in "helping."

Still, way back when before a few upgrades I was actively working on stuff like weblinks off my own list of them, adding books to the list, patrolling etc. where I could and often if nothing else when Q of the Day was inactive, just plain coming up with a question such as for the last two nights that might be of interest.

Activity on the forum takes a lot of forms. Who also knows who might get some kernal of knowledge from what you post in helping or even initiating a post about something even if only a question that might seem fairly simple now that you understand it, but to someone else a step behind you might spark them onto them learning stuff.

Want to help... great thing, we all do intend to help, share, pass on knowledge etc. Keep at it if not also take on help in your field and other places in helping more or even generation of discussions and or studies and things learned in thigs stuff others might learn from. Add to the sections of the forum etc.

Tech people in their own right - don't matter what one's title is be it actor/newbee or TD or what ever moderator. Would my voice be any less boring or considered if I were actor in status? Your voice is known and respected as you not your title also.
