Default CB search: three-letter words/acronyms

CB's search feature sux. Are we looking into an upgrade anytime in the near future? Among other issues, it doesn't like acronyms, such as LDI or ETC. When I do find a phrase or term it likes, it gives me too many responses, with few on topic.

And could someone explain how the thread tags work? Is that eventually going to help the search feature?

I can't officially comment as im not part of the admin team, but by the looks of it that search box is the same one (and i assume the backend code is the same as v2) which means its using its own auto indexing feature instead of our new tags, but you will have to ask dave on that one. My advice is in the meantime just make sure all your posts and threads are meta tagged properly and when its implemented you will be happy knowing you have helped future members find content.

Tagging threads also attracts more traffic to controlbooth, if someone searches "strand 300 " controlbooth should be the second link that Google spits out (fyi we are 3rd currently)

The problem with 3 letter words is that if I allow the search engine to index all three letter words, the index triples in size and slows the search function down significantly. If you find a three letter word or acryonym that search isn't currently indexing, let me know and I'll add it to the engine.

Not ALL three letter words, just TLAs. "ETC" and "LDI" come immediately to mind. A quick glance at the glossary reveals DMX, ACN, RDM, et cetera.

I'll post everything I've got so far and we can add from there.

I apologize, Dave. My photographic memory must have lost a few pixels. You covered this very topic, beginning December, 2006, here, starting with post#7.

Thread closed. No. Wait! Don't <Go>. <Stop/Back> <Cntrl-Z>! Thread to remain open, for the sole purpose of suggestions of three-letter words, specifically relating to technical theatre, which need to be added the CB's search index.
