Default Donation BS

This has got out of hand. It was fine in the beginning with a little encouragement to donate; the site isn't getting money to stay up any other way so that's justifiable.

But every single corner I turn now it's DONATE! DONATE TO CB! YOU'LL DIE IF YOU DON'T!

Everytime I come on here, there's more restrictions added for non-donators.

And well, click the image to see the picture that shows why I'm pissed off. THREE mentions of donations in the header of the page. Stop trying to force it on your users - especially since the site is targeted at high school students who can't even legally use Paypal...

Easy there, big fella. It seems that CB is going through some growing pains. dvsDave added new features, updated the software, and fixed a load of bugs, most of which he paid for of his own pocket. There's several threads open right now trying to hammer out the donating process. Give it time, things will settle down.

I agree with Raktor, Dave is pushing the donation thing pretty hard. IMO, the one green Donate tab in the header would be enough. Instead of asking us to donate in three places, why not put an advertisement in? it wouldn't bother me, as long as it is related to theater, and not those "you won a prize, click here!!" things.

While I can understand the frustration I feel the new donation "rules" are very lax indeed. The new minimum requirement for in-statement of privileges is $5 U.S.. At one time $5 would have been quite bit, now I believe we are either under or equal to most of the worlds currencies. When we started the voluntary donations process we were starting at 5 times the minimum amount now required. I'm sure most students have access to or can acquire access to Mom and or Dads credit/debit/Pay-pal account and if not at least all the good info is still free here. This is my only major sticking point, I feel I have contributed valuable info and time and it pains me to have to see people pay for the privilege of access to that knowledge. I posted it for free I expect it to stay free. Now, wanting this and understanding the economics of the situation are two different things entirely. I don't know how much income Dave generates from ads on here, and I don't really care, at least I don't see them flashing at me on every new page and constantly down the side bars, this isn't a cheap service to provide, I do know that much.
Most of all I beg patience, there have been a lot of changes over the last couple of years and a whole lot of changes in the last couple months. Eventually a solid, well instituted, even handed, reasonably priced < or free > membership scheme will be developed.

There are ads on here? I'm new, but I haven't seen any. That would be a good way to get money. As long as they are not anamated or annoying and I can ignore them, why not?

It's hard to operate a site like this, I would assume. We don't want Dave to loose money on this, especially because he has a family and works hard. I am thankful that there are no annoying ads, but I also find it hard to believe it's easy for an ad service to provide ads for this site because most things we talk about here CAN be purchased offline from very few good sites, but most purchase from local vendors so it reduces revenue from the ad services that pay per click.

By my calculations, save $0.013689253935660... per day and by the end of the year..."viola!"
