Default Google Search

If you look at the bottom of the search dropdown menu on the top navbar, you'll see a new option. It's Google Search and it searches just this site.

Let me know which one you like better. The regular site search or the Google Search. (please do actually test it, *cough* derek *cough*)

Hmmm. One is at the TOP, the other buried all the way at the bottom of the drop-down menu, and isn't even visible unless I first start by scrolling so that Search is at the very top of the page. That's real fair and unbiased.

The fact that one allows a user to enter a phrase, and actually returns expected results, seems to me to be all the proof one needs.

Maybe I have to play around with it some more, but the Google search turns up more results than the CB search. For example, I searched for Leviton, CB search came up with 147 results and Google came up with 273, not including the omitted search results. I would guess that CB only searches it by thread and only lists one result per thread while Google may report multiple results for a thread. That's just a guess on my part, though.

I also find it interesting that Google displays ads along with the search results. If CB gets some of the profit, it could help. If not, it does lead to the internet stores that are (usually) discouraged here on CB, which really isn't a pro or a con - more so a statement of fact.

Yes, the ads are configured to make us $$$, not a whole lot, but you have to show ads to have google search on your site unless you pay $$$

I tried to make them unobtrusive.

You're right, but until I make a final decision, I'm not going into the code to custom script the search.

I personally like the CB search more because it gives you thread stats.

If you decide to keep the Google search please keep the standard search available too.
