Default Laptop busted.

So, the power jack on my laptop actually busted. The center pin on the jack basically broke out of the laptop. I now have the question either send it in for a warranty repair and hope they cover it (its over a year old ASUS m51sn), and yes it is still under warranty, or get out my solder kit and get to the socket and replace it. If I send it in, its going to be gone for at least 2-3 weeks. If I do it myself I will probably void the warranty, but its almost up anyway. Either way, I want my laptop back. To make matters worse, we are in the middle of load in. Fun.

On the laptop, or the adapter?

laptop. Just got it apart and ordered the new part to solder in. This thing was a pain to open... we'll see if it goes back together again.

Honestly, can't you just solder in a pin in the center? Not perfect, but as long as it makes contact it should be okay.

in my expirence with laptop power jacks, they are the hardest part of the computer to replace becuase they are buried beneath everything. I was unable to get at mine (a 15 inch laptop). you say you have already got yours apart, so good luck putting it back together

I have to say, this is one really nice thing about the power connector on the macbook line. They dont have this issue, and even if you kick the power cord, it pops right off the laptop and no harm is done. Now, if they could run most lighting software, i would not be in the market for a windows machine...
