I recently got a smart move gobo rotator, and am using it in my first show and having some issues. Trying to determine if there is something wrong with the unit or if my expectations are bad. First issue. I set the rotator to CW rotation. I turn on the power and the gobo rotates CCW for a second or two, then starts CW. Second. The speed of the rotator varies. I am running it on a dimmer, and it is going slow - then it speeds up - then it goes slowly again. Hope someone can clarify for me what's happening. John
I am surprised no one has yet responded to this post. Both the Smart Move and the Smart Move DMX have built in electronics. I suspect that using a dimmer is causing the problem.
Good day Bill, and thanks for dropping a line within this thread. This and other applications have been discussed recently and as you've mentioned- a dimmer works well with certain types of motors. Stepper motors do not respond well to power supplied through a dimmer, even when that dimmer is locked at full. The reason moving lights should not be used with a dimmer is the same reason why accessories with stepper motors should not. Lighting fixtures and accessories using stepper motors should have a non-dimmed circuit available for them-
