    Going over-voltage on a distro

Yeah, I'll call them now.On the admonishment: My test points are right next to my cams for my handheld meter. The breaker was off on the distro, and I never flip the breaker before metering the power. I guess the MotionLabs meter is hooked up before the breaker. Now I know to check at the...

    Going over-voltage on a distro

Hey folks, Long time since I've been around. I was recently out on a gig and we were using a CAT generator with a motionlabs power distro. I asked the generator owner if the unit was set for 208v 3ph and he grunted and looked annoyed that I would insult his intelligence. I tied in and powered...

Design LED fixtures for back & side light?

This is a great question. Coming from a physics background, I think I can explain what is happening. You're looking to get that wonderful purply-white color that comes from mixing something like L119 and R08 lets say. One of the reasons it appears so 3-dimensional is because the light is...

    Programming Console Conventionals for touring

It looks like the patch way might be the better way to go. However, there is a way to compensate for the problem of varying house rigs. When you are developing your channeling and grouping, leave room! Rather than using channeling back-to-back (1-6 Front, 7-12 back) use broad channel ranges...

    Inexpensive Movers

I personally am afraid of anything Chauvet. For my personal use, I bought two DJ sized Chauvet scanners and have had nothing but trouble. I am lucky that I'm an electrical engineer and could fix the problems, but I've had no luck with their products. I fully endorse the Mac 350's they're a bit...

    Automated Fixtures VL3000 Erratic behavior

Yeah, I think we may try that eventually if replacing the two DMX cables I talked about the other night does not work. However, like I said we are in a holding pattern until after Christmas. Thank you everyone for your help!

    Automated Fixtures VL3000 Erratic behavior

Yeah, I did re-address the unit 8 to the same address as 1 and unit 8 did not have any problems. Also, I cannot physically swap the units because the are hung from the ceiling of a very elegant ballroom and it requires two men on a scissors lift to do that.

    Automated Fixtures VL3000 Erratic behavior

Hey Photoatdv, it's a matter of whether you are disconnecting a faulty cable or leaving it connected. However, I have exciting(ish) and yet confusing news! I tried two more things tonight when I had the time and had some great responses. The Update: First, using my default configuration...

    Automated Fixtures VL3000 Erratic behavior

Wow! Thanks for the great responses! Here's the thing though. These fixtures have been hung for 10 years without any operating problems beyond regular maintenance. I am going to bring the DMX terminator in to work this evening to try it and I will let everyone know what happens. Also, I...

    Automated Fixtures VL3000 Erratic behavior

Hey Guys: First, here's my set-up: 8 - VL3000 moving head spotlights. (28ch each) Hog3 PC to control all moving lights. The DMX is hardlined through 5-pin from the board to the first light and then daisy-chained through the rest of the instruments. There are no dimmers in this...

Control/Dimming Ion DMX with Strand SN110

Well, that didn't work. The Ion ports are working because I was able to control a seachanger directly plugged into the board... I'm going to do some more trouble-shooting tomorrow and work from there. Any ideas are welcome though.

Control/Dimming Ion DMX with Strand SN110

Thanks, I'll try setting the speed to slow. Does this have any bearing on overall performance? Such as, strobe effects with LED units, etc? I know the ports are enabled. Hopefully this will work, I'll keep you posted.

Control/Dimming Ion DMX with Strand SN110

The theater I work in just got an ETC Ion console after seven years with a Strand 520i. First off, does anyone know about ETC Net3? Is it in any way compatible with Shownet? Is ACN compatible with Shownet? Anyways, I bypassed the network problem by using the 5-pin DMX outputs on the back...
