    WTH is a "quickie saw"?

I've had to use these only a few times. Agreed, they can be scary, especially with a "cut off wheel". Would NOT want to be behind one when something went wrong! Honestly, when just cutting along plain un-reinforced concrete/cement, they aren't THAT bad, nothing to catch on and they cut very well.

Vintage Lighting floppy disk show file transfer to Nomad

Yeah I've kept a USB Floppy drive around for a long time. Thankfully only need it once in a blue moon, but it has been handy indeed to salvage some old data. Interpreting the old show file on the disk as said is the hard part when you have no idea what console it is... Might need to open it up...

    Ron Hebbard

Oh my! I am late to finding out about this. I haven't been very active at all since the pandemic. Ron and I had some great discussions, and he had been PARTICULARLY useful to me in tracking down information on how my venue was wired.... as he was the one who wired it. As everyone has said Ron...

    Stage collapse in Toronto

unfortunately, years later that article is gone :'( I was looking for it again to reference given there are some legal changes coming down the pipes for stages from this.

    Mix and match stage boxes

So the great thing about Dante is that any Dante device can pass to another.... However, Yamaha, A&H, etc primarily use proprietary control of things like preamp control. So a generic Dante device will connect to my A&H console, I cannot control the preamp (Gain, phantom, etc) using the...

    "Cheaper to Just Buy It"

Lots of things qualify. Anything you don't have a high level of expertise and will incur lots of additional time, or you don't have the tooling to do efficiently yourself... For example, our scene shop does some metal bending, but on a set with a lot of bends especially with long material or...

Plotting on paper or vellum - does it matter?

Yeah I'd always use paper unless I needed to use vellum for some reason. Mainly when drawing by hand and the times when translucency comes in very much handy.I also agree with bobgaggle, keep drawing sizes reasonable to the work at hand. Nothing more annoying than a bunch of oversized prints...

Device to insert lamps without touching the envelope

I also found the foam sheet that a lot of lamps used to come packed in worked quite well enough. I didn't need no fancy tool :P

Digital Surfaces dLive DX box routing, gain and iPad app

This probably has to do with the control architecture on the dLive, however I find it interesting and somewhat annoying. When the iPad or computer is connected to the CDM/DM which is typical you aren't controlling the surface rather the DM/CDM. Fun that there is an option in the computer...

    Herbal Cigarettes that DON'T stink????

Yeah I try to use e-cigs (with nothing nasty or flavored or nicotine inside) or other substitutes whenever possible to avoid any kind of cigarette including any "herbal cigarettes". As mentioned there are a few less horrible ones out there, but as mentioned I always try and steer things as far...

    Favorite Utility Blade refills?

I usually use OLFA knives so use their refills. They have a few flavours but honestly, they're all excellent.

    Control/Dimming Dimmer Pack repair

Oh, that Chesnut has been circulating on facebook and other places for like nearly a decade. Don't remember where it originated, but you can be sure there were a number of electrical issues there if something like this was there.

    Your go-tos

Another common term is "House Plot", more when talking about a venue that does a lot of rentals and such and has a regular plot that is always returned to. You either use the house plot or pay to change it and restore it.Go to's? Depends greatly. My House Plot Showfile is on an ETC ION Xe...

Hoisting heavy objects to and from a low grid

Yeah lots of rental houses have "material lifts" such as these -> https://www.genielift.com/en/material-handling-products/material-lifts There is also the repurposing of the ST-25 or such for the same kind of application. Getting the heavy things up in the air so they can then be attached properly.

    Rear projection on painted surface

Yeah, you REALLLY want to do each paint application "in one", no going back over or touching up as that will make that area "thicker". The specific treatment we had used in the above mentioned application somewhat fades from my memory but I believe it was simply applied with a hudson sprayer in...
