Control/Dimming Ion Classic or Ion XE

I wouldnt want to do without the encoder wheels personally. The Ion Classic is a great board, but be careful which one you get. Older ones run XP and cannot use the new software. Newr ones I think were from 2015 and run Windows 7. The XE is a much nicer control surface although some people miss...

    Chamsys MQ70 vs Onyx NK4

The ChamSys MQ70 is a really nice console. I own one myself. After years of usiing Avolites for touring, and ETC in theatre I decided on this. Depending on how you set it up, it seems to be a perfect balance of running shows in a theatre style, quick editing, and easy busking. Plus its a really...

Looking for recommendation for 8 port POE switch for lighting network...unmanaged?....managed?

If you dont know why you need a managed switch, then you probably dont need one. Just get a good quality unmanaged one.

    The Future of Green Screens

The first big film that I saw that uses LED set was Gravity. Incredible technology, and superb film. It was a mix of both tech I believe. But I think green screens will be around for a while, as you say, they are cheap and easy to deploy.

Fixture swap, ETC vs Avo or ChamSys

Well yes, I do build all the cues from palettes. The issue is how the desk will translate the fixtures parameters to those pallets. As some modern moving head spots use well over 30 channels I would like them mapped and translated as accurately as possible.

Fixture swap, ETC vs Avo or ChamSys

I am currently running a circus show that is touring. We use a Titan Mobile for the show, but I am leaning more and more towards ETC boards these days as I operate these shows like a theatre show. I could replot the show on a new board if it made sense to do so. The one thing that really keeps...

Console Recommendation for High School + Theatre Academy?

A couple of things to think about here. I have used ChamSys far more than ETC and I think it is better for control of moving lights. But Eos is a more mature system and it is better for cue stacking and advanced timing. Both have their quirks and honestly I am not sure which I would choose in...

    Mover selection help

Dont get the Martin 2ks. They were great in their time but are really unreliable. I was lighting a production in a theatre in Sydney a few years back and had about 20 of them, washes and spots. Every day I would get in and fire up the rig and notice one that was playing up. Crew chief would call...

    First pro console choice

ETC's 10,000 cue limit and Chamsys' 5,000 limits keep them from being serious contenders. Really? Have you ever come up against that? Nobody would really unless they are running a massive show for someone like Beyonce where there could be a few thousand cues running to timecode, In which case...

    Sophisticated Airplane Lighting

I flew on an Etihad A380 and it was blingtastic - first time I had seen all that onboard LED nonsense. And there was lots of it, together with twinkly stars in the ceiling panels at night.

    Strand 500ML Console

Well looking at their website again, it does seem that their choice of console is the Neo. http://performance.wengercorp.com/product/lighting/lighting-control-solutions/scroll down the page and there is a photo of one being used/

    Strand 500ML Console

Honestly, i wouldnt buy anything from Strand. They used to be industry leaders but lost the plot big time. They have tried reinventing themselves a few times under different owners and introduced different ranges of consoles, eventually coming up with the Neo which is essentially Light Factory...

Control/Dimming Jands Vista is now Chroma-Q Vista

It looks like Jands have quit trying to be in the premier league with MA, Avolites and Hog. Sell many small products cheaply. Better strategy.

Anything at comparable price point that rivals ETC ColorSource PAR?

Maybe worth considering is the Elation Sixpar series. I used some at a gig recently and was really surprised and would spec them again. RGBAW+UV and variable dimming curves. Really nice colours and v.important to me, good whites. Does not zoom though. But probably the best static LED unit I have...
