    Moving Fountain

I'm not sure what sort of budget you have, but the most DIY option would be to use a stepper motor salvaged from an old printer (thrift store) and an Arduino with a stepper motor shield. A printer can be had for $10, Arduino clone + motor shield would be ~$30-40 You can order a "Sample"...

    DMX Basics: Scrollers

Address your scrollers to 1 and plug them into the second universe jack on the back of the console. Then when patching on the console, as Wilson said, [Patch][513][Enter][95][Enter][Stage] 512 is the last DMX channel in universe 1 so 513 is channel 1 in universe 2. :) As far as plugging...

    Com Cutoff Switch

Ahh, ok, you're right. I was thinking about our school system where we just run a single channel so relatching wouldn't be an issue.

    Who else uses TouchOSC?

I've combined it with an Arduino + relay setup to control my room lighting over wifi. :D The problem I had though was that it forced my computer to run all the time to convert OSC to serial for the Arduino. Although in that setup, I only used toggles, no faders or anything. Personally, I...

    Com Cutoff Switch

It could also maybe have been a kill for the two/three XLR wires ( I don't remember how many coms use), so when he toggled the switch for a split second, the pack got reset and mic unlatched.

    Stiffening Ladders

I don't have any direct experience, but I'd say aircraft wire from a couple points, tied down to some other fixed structure. 2 wires per point in opposing directions.

    Control/Dimming Tech Booth Dimming

As CSC said, from what you have specified, your easiest solution seems to be to just get a small dimmer pack. Best solution would be to have a console with a second DMX universe, Otherwise: It would be ideal for you to have access to your full dimmer rack, that was you can run a DMX cable...

Looking For A New Twisted Pair Video System

I think I saw in some other thread that cat6 isn't compatible with Video systems because of the higher frequency spec or something? That didn't really make sense to me because I figured the spec specified the maximum frequency, not the only operating one. Could someone explain whether this is...

Can we convert all of our Fixtures to LED's in the next 5-10 years?

In theatre, a lot of it is about coordinating costumes and set and lighting. The problem with LED's is that even with RGBAW, there are quite a few dips and empty spaces in the colour output spectrum, which means that those colours just will not show up which screws things up for costume+set...

    Large Console Videos

I don't really mind the dirty work, i already do it for free at our school's theatre. Any idea what pay-wage for something like this would be? Even at the bottom rung this seems like a slightly specialized field so something above minimum wage? ($8/hour here)

    Large Console Videos

I've been considering doing exactly that, actually. The one problem is that the two major rental shops I know around here and fairly far away. (35-40 minute/bus commute). But I'm looking for a job already and it'll sure beat retail. :P How would one go about trying to get in with one of these...

    Large Console Videos

Yeah, I'm looking more for videos that feature real-time use, tutorials tend to go into a single topic in depth. That being said, I spent a good hour on that site watching all the MA2 videos. pretty enlightening, makes me really sad that as a student it's highly unlikely I'll be able to come...

    Large Console Videos

Would love to get my hands on that book, but sadly it's not available at any local libraries, not even any of the local chain bookstores. (With online lookups) Bit too expensive to just go out and buy though. :( Thanks for the videos, and I'll check out the manuals in a bit. :)

    Large Console Videos

Hey, I'm just wondering if you guys could help me find videos (Youtube type-stuff) of people using large/advanced Lighting consoles (MA, Any of the bigger Avolites, Strand 300/500, Express, Obsession, etc). I'm currently in a school environment, so I'm trained/practiced on two-scene and...

    Mania SCX500

The event I was at had no atmosphere, and it looked pretty good. The way they directed it at the back wall made it quite visible all around. For coverage, from about 25-30 feet away, it was hitting a wall with maybe a 50 foot spread across. More than enough coverage.
