church is buying a new sound board....need help

I second keep it simple- but if you have lots of people that will have access to the board (including hired cleaning crew and teens) I would recommend a digital board that is password protected so that you can protect your mixes and settings. That includes protecting your settings from...

Weirdest Thing You've Been Asked To Complete

Dye an English rock star's underwear purple and then hand wash it before each show. Make a marching bass drum look "African or something". Spend my days off while on tour rummaging through junk yards throughout North America for interesting bits of metal for him to bang on during the show...

    This Is Humiliating

As I stated in the first post, the choir mics are hung correctly, having moved them to that configuration myself- they were hung 12 inches apart and eight feet in front of the choir when I first got here...I was actually being a bit silly when I said I yelled from FOH to simulate little old...

    This Is Humiliating

I locked everybody out of the worship center recently, reset the input gains (yelled at them from FOH position- theory is that yelling from seven times the distance from the mics as the front row of choir is equal in volume to the front row of gray haired old ladies mumbling out A Mighty...

    This Is Humiliating

Much to my chagrin I find myself involved in...da...da...da...worship sound. Choir has two correctly hung/spaced/angled Audio Technica U853A mics on...brace yourself...250 ft mic cables. I can't fix the cable runs- they are a Done Deal. So instead I have to put a band-aid on a brain injury...

    Bandit Lites?

I've worked with touring Bandit crews at our dirt floor venue for many years. They have always been professional and pleasant. Pretty much, when they open the truck and there are silver boxes, it's going to be a good day. As far as I know, Bandit is the only company that doesn't over-under their...

    Yamaha LS9 ?

Okay, everybody has had a chance to get over that first glow of New Product and has probably had a chance to work with the LS9. What are your thoughts now?

    Bending Foam

Looking at the title I had a Zen Moment and forgot I was in the Scenery Section... I've used the laminating method. Tedious and you need to grow about nine hands but I sheathed an entire 90 degree corner because the plans said "NO SHARP CORNERS". Watch out for the seams- I ended up putting...

    Giant Jukebox

A guy in my area who makes portable garages out of tubular aluminum fabricated a tunnel frame* for me- and I hung a white curtain near the DS end, about a foot from the end. Backlight is a quartz work light with hand-fabricated barn doors located at the US end and makes a shadow with a sharp...

    Giant Jukebox

"...Try an LED fixture or lamp for the light to minimize the heat..." I had considered a PAR64LED so that I could use multiple colors. "...why not several PAR38's..." With several light sources come several overlapping shadows- I need a sharp shadow that is discernible from the back row...

    Giant Jukebox

Feel free to point and laugh. I need to build a collapsible jukebox seven feet tall and five feet wide. It will be roughly based on a late-50s Wurlitzer. The painful part: The front is actually a painted scrim with a velcro fly split down the middle so that the actor can emerge in a cloud...

    Design Lighting Design Software

"...If you are already working in gimp, I would probably keep working in that program and expand out with a few more layers. There is also google sketchup, it could easily do block diagram light plots. Paint is another option. You would be amazed how many riders out there contain light plots...

    Design Lighting Design Software

At the moment I'm hand-drawing the plots (with my good-old green plastic template), scanning them into the computer, and then adding text info (color, lens, channel, etc) in GIMP. Then I paste into a page of the Tech Rider I'm designing. It works but I was looking for something that would...

    Design Lighting Design Software

I need a good, basic program for creating concert and event lighting plots. Drag n drop preferred. This will be running on a laptop using XP. Any suggestions? I'd love to find something free and/or open source, if possible. Anybody know anything that plays nice with GIMP and O^3?

    Flightcase on the truss?

The "flightcases" are part of the computerized motor control system for the moving lighting trusses. The trusses change shape during the show to reflect the different aspects of a sine wave. I'd love to know how it was rigged but riggers always lie about how many points they actually had to use.
