Wire tricks

Hi, I am currently working on a production of Oliver. My Director asked me today to incorporate some wire tricks in the Coat of Fagin. I'm assuming this is to do some slight of hand bit with handkerchiefs. Does anyone have information on rigging such a thing. What type of wire would work best to do this. I think one trick my Director wants is to have Oliver pull a rope of handkerchiefs from Fagins sleeve and then have them retract back up it.
Any help or advice is always appreciated!!

The easiest way to do this is to use a retractable key chain... Something similar to this Retractable Metal Card Badge Holder Steel Recoil Key Ring Belt Clip Pull Chain | eBay

Retractable ID badge lanyards would do the trick. They're small , easy to conceal , can be found in black, and are CHEAP! You may have to use 3 or 4 depending on the length you want the hanky trick to be.
