Ya most DJ events want "flash and trash". They want it dark want flashy. Iv done several dj gigs and theater stuff and thats adj stuff works much better than trying to use bright theater lights...
Its probley doing the same thing my 2 chauvet led shadows do when the dmx controller is turned off. These fixtures automaticaly determine if they are getting dmx or if they need to use stand...

XLR is use for line level all the time. In most set ups, the XLRs going to the amps are line level. On linking powered speakers with XLRs, its line level coming out of the previous speaker.

Also check the roll-off switch on all of them. (3 position switch around where an on/off switch would be if it had one). I used 3-sm 81s for my high school choir (whole group pickup) and use sm58s...
Thats how I can tell on most of them.
Some of there stuff is name brand, you just don't know which on untill you get your order. Most of the DJ lights are Elimator. A few are Chauvet and i think the higher powered blacklights are...
Those arn't bad. cheaplights.com is a good source, I use them alot. Have you thought of useing the 4ft tube ones though? I would be alot cheaper.
