Fat Suit Faves

What are your favorite fat suit tips and techniques? How do you go about drafting and constructing a fat suit? Or, what is your favorite source on the subject?

Coe College needs to take a character (Mary in Merrily We Roll Along) from her heaviest weight down to a mid-weight, then down to the actor's weight, so we're taking a layered approach. She never gets to be obese, just heavier for her body type, or heavy for show-business. Just looking for some pointers. Thanks in advance!

Build/buy a cotton unitard that covers all the areas you plan to enlarge. Then it is just a matter of padding the areas you plan to enlarge with batting. It is kind of like building a stuffed animal onto a garment. Sew a pouch add fluff. You could build the fat suit segments so they attach by Velcro if that helps with the actors changing routine.
