Quick question for y'all. I'm using a 20.5" box truss as an Apron Truss, and I also have an Apron Boom that lies underneath the last few feet of the truss. In order to allow the truss to fly in for service, I'd like to be able to shorten the truss length and hang the most offstage lights on a pipe that is attached to the truss. See the attached image. The pipe needs to stick out about 8' beyond the truss, but I would use a pipe at least 16 or so feet long to allow for strong attachment points to the truss. I would cheeseborough the pipe to the top downstage chord of the truss in two or three places. If it becomes absolutely necessary, I can probably drop another pick point at the end of the extension, but I'm hoping to avoid that if I can. I've done this for one or two lights where the pipe didn't extend beyond two or three feet, but never for something this long. Is this something I can safely do? Even better, what figures would I be looking for in order to make this calculation for myself?
