So I am looking to build a 16'dia revolve out of 2 layers of .5" plywood on a 90 degree angle. We plan on using wire rope wrapped around the diameter of the circle and a winch to propel the movement, but we are stuck on how powerful of a winch to use. What I have been trying to find, is some kind of a formula (if one even exists) for the translation of vertical weight into a horizontal force required to rotate the circle. because it is resting on castors. If anyone knows of some kind of method for figuring this out, it would be much appreciated.
