I have recently been given the resposibility of handling the projectors and mic setups for meetings in my multiuse building. I am the SM/Head Rigger for the main preformance area and because of ecposure to the technology I have been morphed into a tech. Yesterday I went in to set up two projectors for Powerpoint presentations, simple right? It was until they decided to turn tthe room and everything had to be redone. Then they added lapel mics. This is where the problem arose. We have seven meeting rooms that can be seperated by air walls. The speakers are 70v ceiling units. I can turn either room on or off and put the inroom mic inputs into it. What I can't do is have one mic inputing in room seven and another system in one. We have podiums that contain it's own sound system, complete with a condenser mic. I tried to take the lapel base and input it into a dynamic mic input on the podium. All I could get was a loud hum. The XLR to 1/4 adaptor was unbalanced so I figured I needed a TRS 1/4. Off to the electronic store, no change. The I realized the Shure base has a 1/4 jack in addition to the XLR. I tried both balanced and unbalanced, same result. I'm at a loss at this point. As a side note, the 1/4 jack on the wireless base is unbalanced, why? As I have noted in past posts, I am a light guy/rigger. I have enough soound knowledge to be dangerous.
