I got this from North American Cable Types

Type S (and all subsequent letter codes) = Extra Hard Usage--required in almost all article 520 Theatre applications

Type SJ (and all subsequent letter codes) = Junior Hard Service (permitted by Section 520 of the NEC only in twofers and adaptors not more than 36" in length, and breakout assemblies not more than 20' in length that are not on the floor and are supported by a substantial structure such as a truss or pipe over their entire length)
