3. n- Historically, the actual stage floor of a classic Greek theater. Originally a "threshing floor" the Orchestra was used for ceremonial dances to celebrate the Harvest. Later as these ceremonies became more organized They evovled into the Dionyssian Festivals which, in turn, gave rise to The Theatre as we know it today.
