raceway

1. Place where NASCAR fans is.

2. As it applies to lighting, a raceway is a sheet-metal wireway for the purpose of distributing power (and sometimes data) to luminaires. Although often used interchangeably with connector strip, a raceway does not necessarily contain outlets, it may just be a chase. Usually 3"deep x 4"high and of unlimited length, it can have either flush-mount receptacles or pigtails, the choice of which is highly debated, and often aesthetic. Colloquially known by tradespersons as "gutter" or "trough," especially when used as a chase without outlets.

Why one would ever want to mix pigtails and receptacles on the same strip is peculiar, to say the least.
