jack

1. A female, flush or panel-mount, connector, usually found in a patchbay. May also be used to refer to any female connector, such as the female side of an audio adapter. Hence, a male RCA to a female BNC becomes an RCA plug to BNC jack.

2. Scenic. A supporting frame, see stage jack, lift jack, tip jack.

3. Verb or noun. To temporarily raise often only one side of an object: "Jack up the car to change a tire." "Use a garage jack to do that."
