In case you don't have shutters and wanted to make a smiley face using three lights (that'd be the mouth, two smaller degree lights for eyes.)

(I was going to enter that too, but of course I didn't get my idea until I was in Japan and by then entries were due right when I got home. Oh well.)

WHY?

Why? To allow a moving light without shutters to crop the light beam. Many trite and seemingly boring patterns are intended for cropping spill for fixtures sans shutters.

Occasionally we see a somewhat boring pattern really come to life when projected through atmoshere. (Especially when rotated)

The origin of this post wasn't so much to vote on existing Apollo patterns (though you are certainly welcome to do so), but to have a stab at those select few that have been sent in to us from LD's and technicians like you.

Any 1/2 or 1/4 aperature gobo.

Turns my S4 25/50 zoom into an iris fixture for $11. Cheaper then buying a City Theatrical Iris at $75.

SteveB, not to offend the gobo manufacturers, but I don't think I'd buy an http://www.controlbooth.com/forums/glossary/7518-aperture-reducer.html. Years ago, I had a metal shop make me about 50 in various sizes for about $1 each. I forget the material thickness, but they were sized and shaped so that one didn't need a pattern holder.

Yeah, good idea, but I already have bunch.

I had a Cuban Dance company a few years back, insisting on a rig full of 6x16's/20 degrees. Purchased a lot of 1/2 and 1/4's ap. gobo's instead for our (at the time) 6x12's. They never noticed and it saved a rental.

I do know of a tin smith locally, maybe I'll draw up a design and price them out, easier then dragging a gobo out of the book, loading to a holder, etc... bet it'll be more then $1 ea. though.

We also use the Warm Free Flow and Cool Free Flow glass gobos for our cyc.

Just curious--did people change what they voted for based on whether the gobo was metal, Super Resolution, or color?
I ended up voting for a Super Resolution one, however I did contemplate voting for a metal one because I would have more opportunities to use it.

Hah, I know two of the folks who designed gobos for this contest - the TD at school and one of the graduates of the program.

The Super-Resolution through-the-window one looks nice.
