Just Got an Ion and Have Questions

A church i work for just got an ion. After playing around with it for a while i had some questions that weren't answered by the manual and i was wondering if any one here had fixes for them. The first is is there a way to program release as a soft key? Secondly, is there a way to get around pressing enter every time you change a channel value?
Other than that i really haven't had any problems and have gotten it up and running with our dimmers and movers.

ETC has a very good user/support forum, including a specific Eos/Ion section for just these kind (and any other) questions you might have. Members are existing Eos/Ion console users as well as the ETC console developers and tech support folks. I would suggest browsing the past postings as a great way to learn some tips and tricks.

Don't know the console well enough to answer the first question well, but isn't there a dedicated Release key ?, so why would you need a softkey version ?.

As to the 2nd question, having to hit Enter after particular keyed entries is integral to how the console operates, and is known as Command Line entry. One advantage is it lets you type and review the commands being requested, with time to back up and make corrections prior to hitting Enter. Very common syntax found on the Strand Palette and ETC Obsession consoles as well. You get used to it and I suspect will come to to like it, even though it seems clunky after using Express/ion.

You can just push Sneak Enter to release captured channels. Why do you need a soft key?

I don't know of any way of programming something as a soft key, but I could be wrong.

There is no such thing as release on Ion or Eos (or the Strand 300/500 and new gen consoles). On ETC you can use [sneak][Enter] to clear "captured" channels. You can use "goto 0" to go to black on stage. I think your other question has been answered.

One thing I forgot, you can also zero out channels by hitting ##[@][ENTER] (where the ## is the channel number).
