Design LitePad Alternative

Hey, I'm specing a show right now and am looking for a lower budget alternative to using Rosco LitePad that would have the same effect. It will be used under the sheets of a hospital bed to make the bed glow, but the glow needs to be even and it needs to be a solution that is very inconspicuous. So, if anyone has any suggestions, that would be greatly appreciated.

Well, knowing a little more about how it is supposed to be used would help. Is someone supposed to be lying on the bed ?

I would suggest building a bed with a plexiglass/some sort of semi-transparent plastic top and use fluorescents. If you need it to be cordless, they do make 12v fluorescents. if colour temperature is a concern use a bit of colour correction gel?

Ok, here's the deal. It's for a production of Wit, for those of you that know the show. Anywho, the hospital bed is prebuilt (an actual hospital bed). The intent on this was for the final scene when she dies the team is still working on her, as she dies, the bed underneath her begins to glow, with a silhouette of her left on the bed. So, in answer to the questions: yes, she will be lying on the bed, no they do not need to be cordless. I do, however, need this to be as low-profile as possible. My original conception was to do it with Litepad, but I am not being given the budget to do so, thus why I am specing alternatives.

While I understand that the actress spends a good portion of that show in the bed, you could always modify your existing prop to be a lightbox with a thicker piece of plexiglass for her to lie on that the sheets would cover up. Kind of a time/labor intensive project though.
