Help Finding a Fixture!!

Hey CB,

I have used google, the search tool, and lightnetwork for hours and havent been able to find anything. My high school is doing a production of holes next month and I want to replace the regular house lights with fixtures similar to those found in a mine or cavern. For example:

However, in this particular fixture the light has a rod that is meant to mount it from the ceiling. Also note that the price is about 200 dollars per light over my budget. I wanted to see if anyone could help me locate some of these fixtures sans-pole/sans-expensive price, since my efforts have been resultless so far.

Thank you so much!

Have you tried the local hardware store, like Home Depot? If I'm understanding you correctly, you're just looking for a bare bulb fixture with a cage over it, similar to what's found in a warehouse or industrial building.

I would think this would be more likely the type found in a mine, as that's exactly what it's made for. Since they're truly explosion proof, about $300-400 each.

Might something from this site suit your needs?

Go to mcmaster.com. Do a search for item number: 14685k15. This will take you to the page in their catalogue with a fixture that I think meets your needs and comes a lot closer to your price range than the example you provided, though it's not nearly as ornate. They're pretty much, old school industrial work lights. I have several of the larger fixtures installed backstage in my venue.

Seems as if you have a lot of good ideas here and I cant think of any new ones so I wont re-post but I do have a question for you.

'Holes"? as in the movie that is a few years old (Disney I think).

And, Are you planning to try re-wire the house lights into the new fixtures, or are you planning to run cable for a dimmer and then daisy chain them together ?

That is exactly what I'm looking for!! Thanks for your help. As for one of your questions regarding how I'm going to wire it...I plan on running a cable straight down from each of the existing house lights which are already on dimmers to avoid unneccesary cabling.
