Getting to know the ropes

So officially I do mainly acting, but I want to learn about all aspects of the career I have chosen for myself. So I go to college (Catawba College in Salisbury NC) to learn about as much as possible. Lighting Design, Set design, Managment etc. This way I can be not only an actor, but a true theatre person in general. If anyone else feels like they have specific suggestions on what exactly someone should look at/ get to know to accomplish being generally well rounded I would love to hear from you!

Welcome to the board! It's good to have you here!

It's great to see someone willing to try and learn about everything.

Well, without running up a monumental college bill (if this is even possible), perhaps an opening course in each of the areas you have mentioned in your post. If this is the direction you are planning to go already- good for you!

Many professionals in all types of markets become somewhat 'compartmentalized' and aren't cross-trained in the other facets of their craft. This is truly a shame. Theater technicians that have the pleasure of working with an actor that understands why the lights are in the eyes and bright, have a kindred spirit on stage. This relationship can only improve the experience we know as Live Theater!

Welcome to the CB, and thanks for wanting to 'peek behind the curtain'!
