WYSIWYG

Okay, this is probably going to sound like a really dumb question, but, I've been working with a demo version of WYSIWYG on my laptop and now that I'm trying to use it on the board we have upstairs (ETC Express 48/96) and I can't even get into CAD mode.

Nobody else here has ever used it, Smith (director) gave it to me as a project to do when I had time and apparently he hasn't really used it either...

I don't know if this info is needed, but, we do run Studio Spots and Colors off of that board but one of the students that graduated last year did all of that stuff before he left and didn't share his knowledge. Now all of those are messed up because our inept tech coordinator tried to add two more Studio Spots and didn't do it right. And now none of them work at all.

What exactly are you trying to do with it? Are you trying to import a patch (to my knowlege you board cannot do this with WYG), are you trying to use the "perform" features? Some additional info would help us help you.

Are you sure it's a "demo" version of WYSIWYG ?. I don't believe a Demo is going to interface with any console, as it's for demonstration purposes. Does the program require a dongle to operate ?.

What you describe however, seems like an Express with Emphasis system, with the PC software not really the demo version, but instead a real version of WYG 15 thru 17, requiring a dongle to operate and designed to operate either as a off-line visualizer, or as a Remote Virtual Interface to the Emphasis/Express console.

So some questions:

- Is there a dongle/USB type device for the stand-alone PC ?

- Can you tell us what version WYSIWYG ?

- Is there an Emphasis server attached to the Express ?, usually a desktop PC that connects to the Express via a Cat5 cable.

- Are there dual monitors on the Express ?, one would be the display for Emphasis and would have some version of either 2d or 3d WYSIWYG on it.

Helping to figure out the issue with the movers as well as adding additional fixtures will depend on which system you are using, Emphasis or stand alone Express, as each system has different methods for configuring and adding moving lights.

And as a side note, the PC off-line version of WYSIWYG 15/16/17, as provided by ETC uses Emphasis Off-Line Editor and allows you to build and cue a complete show off-line. You then save and transfer the file as an Emphasis show file to the Emphasis/Express system. When you operate the laptop in Emphasis Remote Virtual Facepanel mode, connected directly to the Emphasis server as a Net2 device, it is only a remote for the basic Express console, there is no WYSIWYG on-line visualization available on the laptop.

Thus, more information needed.

You misunderstood.

My personal laptop has a demo version on it, but we have the full thing on the board upstairs.

We have Emphasis, there are two monitors yes.

I don't know for sure what version of WYSIWYG it is, I know the theatre was built in 2005 and it was probably that year that we got it.

I don't know of any usb device or anything that we have attached to the computers...I can check tomorrow at school.

And, I'm not trying to do anything specific with it yet. I just want to try and do something, anything with it.

I understood what you were asking, just puzzled as to why you are using a demo version, when Emphasis generally shipped with a separate copy of full-blown WYSWYG, in at least the Report version. There should thus be a dongle to allow use of whatever version (other then a demo version) on a laptop/stand alone PC. Depending on which WYG version ETC sent, you may or may not enable 3d plotting and pre-viz. Report as example, doesn't do 3d. Note also that the Emphasis server has an embedded version of WYSIWYG, either 2d or 3d in assorted channel capacities, starting at 500 channels.

Having the ETC provided WYG software with the dongle, allows the Laptop /PC to function as a remote, using Emphasis Off-Line Editor as a Virtual Facepanel, but does not allow real-time visualization, just more basic console functions.

Since you have Emphasis, I would recommend searching the HD for a past version of a file that had the correct config for the Studio Spots and Colors, prior to the addition of new equipment. That might get you restored with current gear and you can then correctly add in new equipment.
