new to the board, and loving it already!
i'm a high school senior and i LD for all of our productions. i got in to lighting for my middle schools "musical" and have taken that through high school, and now i can't get enough.
what's really unique about what i get to do at my high school is that i don't really have a higher authority to answer to with my designs, because our theater is based around letting the students run anything. so whatever the lighting, sound, and stage crew request, it usually gets done. it works out great because none of us abuse that power, and when it's all said and done we have a very unique theater program.
i'm already eager to see what awesome stuff i can get out of this site. and hopefully what i can give back.

Ooooh I'm envious.
Welcome to CB Joe, seeing as you are in High School you might want to check out the H.S. Technicians group. Don't be afraid to ask anything, and try to keep your spelling in check!

Welcome to CB Joe! Wow, I wish my high school were at least a little bit like yours. Before I joined up, the only two lighting cues the shows ever had were "Lights Up" and "Lights Down". Now I get flak from my director and TD every time I try to gel an instrument or hang something in a position other than the FOH. And even getting so much as a new order of lamps can be a test of wills.

Spend some time getting to know the Search feature. There is a wealth of information, particularly about Lighting, on this site, and it is freely available to anyone who takes the time to look for it. Also check out the CBWiki (link at the top of the page) for the Glossary and the Collaborative Articles - great sources if you need more information on a subject. And as always, feel free to ask questions and give answers when you can. Have fun!

EDIT: Aggh, Scott beat me to it :)
