Hey,

So here's what I'm dealing with. Pretty much got a 400 seat theater to work in. The musical is a mixture of sound fx and wireless actors. I've got $300 to spend for rental gear. I've got about 16 wireless packs to use.

Can someone educate me on basic signal for in a theater for something of this nature?

Hello Rabit,

I am a little confused about your question here. Are you asking for advice on how to configure your wireless system? How to setup you console and run theshow? Or are you asking for advice on how to set up your entire system?

If its the lather, and I am understanding you correctly in that you all ready have the 16 channels of wireless, my next question would be what else do have to work with already?

Well, there is a little mackie board there which I do not plan on using. I've had plenty of problems with it before.

This is pretty much my first time running a board with wireless mikes. I've always been assistant, ie placing packs on people and keeping everything run smoothly backstage.

For the fx, I figure just I'll take the stereo headphone output of the laptop and feed it a set of left and right line level inputs to the soundboard.

However, this time, I will have to rent a board and run the show, I'm sure. I'm pretty much wondering how I should set up the entire show.

Before you spend your $300, make sure you

-Don't have to pay for batteries with that money
-Have enough batteries to last the entire show - changing out 16 packs every show plus enough batteries for dress rehearsals will cost major money.

What else is there? Is there a house pa available for use? What equipment do you actually need? 9V batteries tend to run around $1 each. Plan for having one for each pack, per show/dress, and then some. What lavs are you using with the wireless? You might want to consider a graphic equalizer in order to help tame feedback.

Do you have to mic up an orchestra pit or band? We are going to need lots of that type info to be able to offer help which is really help.

We could go tell you that you need SK50s with MKE2s and a Verona 560 and nine VDosc a side with dvdosc supplementary arrays and subs. Ooh, and 160As for the money channels and 166As or ACP88s for the rest. And Macros and Soundwebs and the like.

But we can't. There's no magic combination (musical=this). You have to identify what your resources are, what your needs are, and how to smash them together.
