Strand 300 Submasters

Hi All

I have a strand 300 with 72 submasters but only 24 seem to work.

Does anybody have any idea how to turn the other 48 on?

Cheers

Do you mean that you have 72 faders or that you are told that you are supposed to have access to 72 subs and you only have 24 faders?

If you have 72 faders and some are not working, I would check the SBus conenctions between them. There should be a little Cat5 Patch cable that connects each fader wing to the next.

If you only have 24 faders and you are trying to figure out how to access the rest of your subs, you just need to change your submaster page as you should have at least 3. I don't remember the keys on the 300 off the top of my head, on the 500 I know there is a [SUB PAGE] button, which you would hit followed by the page that you want to see. If there is no [SUB PAGE] button you might try hitting the key and seeing if the softkeys give you access to a page feature. I will look into t a little more, but those are probably your best bets.

The 300 was only available with blocks of 24 subs. Technically they are only available on one page...however if you press the K on an attached keyboard followed by the number 1, 2, 3, or 4 you can access 4 pages of submasters.

Hi Thanks for your reply,

i have 72 faders and was wondering how to record in the extra faders as it only allows to record on the forst 24.

Hope this makes sense!

Yup, you just need to change sub pages. The easiest way on a 300, as has been mentioned, is to hook up a PS/2 keyboard (USB won't work as DOS does not support USB so the USB ports on your console won't work) and hit "K" followed by a number (1-4) and [*]. That will change your active sub page. Also note that with the keyboard you have to type a capital K.

I think you can also change the default number of subs per page in the DOS settings of the console, but I would not suggest trying this unless you really know DOS and your console settings.

The Strand 300 only has 24 submasters, The other faders are individual channels, usually the first 1-xxx(48 in your case, my desk had 96).
This can not be changed, though I tried many times over the years !

You have multiple pages of Subs (4). They can be accessedby pressing SUB and then + or SUB and then - to go up or down on the key pad . The screen will show which Sub page you're on.

You can set the desk to '2 preset' mode, turnning it into a 2 x 48 channel preset desk, for really simple user operation as well.

A cool trick I learned was that you can have totally separate functions on the Bump buttons under the faders of the sub masters, and use them to bump different lighting states or other functions by calling Macro's., or modifying it with the S (Strand/Shift key).

I liked my Strand 300, pity the newer boards didn't evolve from it. :-(

While you may not be able to make all the faders function as subs in the GUI, I have a feeling there is a way to do it in the 220cfg file. As I said before, messing around with the DOS files when you don't know what you are doing can be very bad. Unfortunately, I don't have a 300 to play with, but I could try to take a look at the files. You can do a lot of things that you are not "supposed" to be able to do by editing the DOS files.
