Automated Fixtures Need help with a movie effect

I have a Vl 3000 wash and i need to simulate a movie being projected and reflected back on the stage. The flicker effect. I was wondering if there was any suggestion?

I can't find it at the moment, but there was a thread about this very thing not that long ago. The consensus was that you just need to semi-spurradically bring the light up and down as you don't see the framerate flicker. It's more of the change of scenes that causes the "flicker".

I did this with 4 Altman 360Q's with R99 in an effect loop.

the shutter is 48hz so a colour wheel mounted infront of a fixture with a varrying pattern on it would work

I remember alot of discussion in the thread that I was talking about mentioning the frame rate. I don't think that was it.
