The sky is falling

No wait, it's a fresnel.

I was in the audience for an amdram show. Halfway through act one, during a scene change (in black), the whole audience hears a big crash. Figure that a prop was dropped or kicked over... show goes on.

At intermission, I hear the real story.

Went to black for scene change.
Fly went out.
Crew came on to strike tables etc.
Fly going out knocked a fresnel (not sure how; I didn't rig the show)
Fresnel fell off the electrics bar.

Now here you think, "And the safety cable caught it, end of story."

Manually crimped safety cable broke from sudden stress, fresnel fell ontop of a table as it was being struck, from normal trim height.

A foot closer, and the crew member would've been dead...

So word of caution - check your safety chains, used only approved safety chains, make sure your rigging is done properly, etc. etc.

Yeh, that was fun.. Not.

The whole LX crew sitting there between Act 1 Scene 3 to the interval (Over an hour) thinking, "Oh **** i hope that does not happen again" and "Oh **** i hope its not my fault"

It was caused by a Flat being flown right next to an LX bar and nocking the light up and then it fell down with the dodgy chains not catching it. The next day we spent the whole morning checking the rig, securing and now the venue is replacing all the saftey chains :) (that will keep chief busy for a while)

Oh, and the Fresnel still works perfectly (Bubble and all).

yupp funnily enough i was part of the LX crew

so obviousley im dooing ops in the control box, completley **** myself at what happend. and thank god it wasnt human error, (except the directors)

any way what happen was the set flat got positioned to close to the LX bar, and when the flat went up, it got knocked forward end result hitting the fresnel and knocking it off LX

so yes DONT HOME MAKE SAFETY CHAINS, honestly if your hanging a fixture do what i do and use a ****ing chain with a D shacle or a Caribena

its not worth it risking someones life

it was actually 11m hahaha, it tells you one thing if the light still works, *strand make there light ****ing well*

yes it was human error but not from the LX crew

what the worst thing is is that it is a respectable theatre, yet im not sure how they are going to go after this.
