Control/Dimming New to Hog3

I'm starting a production of Reefer Madness this week, and the only console that is available to me is an iPC running the Hog3 software, which I have never used before. It has been 2 years since I have even touched one, and it was a Hog2 model. I am used to ETC boards and other conventional boards, so it's already very confusing. I'm running 5 moving lights, but I am using conventional's. I have several strip lights which are gelled to RGB. Looking through the manual I see that I am able to create instrument profiles from scratch. I was hoping that I can have some guidance turning these into fixtures which I can simply control through the built in color picker. I understand that there will be color gamut issues, but this will save me large amounts of pre-programming time.

I'm sure that this question has been asked before, but I'm hoping for a little bit of direction in this matter. I first get to use the software tomorrow, but luckily I have 2 weeks till I'm in space. Thanks for putting up with my newbie question. If it helps I'm using classic L&E R40 strips, 150w lamps with R27, R95, and R80.

It is possible to do BUT you are only allowed two patch points for a fixture so your dimmers would have to be in the correct consecutive order per fixture. (Red D45 green D46 blue D47) Also the fixture builder is buggy as hell so allow plenty of time to get one made.

If you can hard patch the fixtures in the correct order you can use one of the generic RGB profiles instead of building a new one.

Because I'm overstretching my dimming capabilities already, I may have phase balancing issues if I don't set them up with like colors on consecutive dimmers. That's really annoying, but I might be able to figure something out. So I can simply tell the console that they are RGB units? Awesome. I'm still trying to find a non 64-bit/MAC so I can get the OLE installed.

Thanks

You can run a Hog ipc in Hog 2 mode you don't need to use hog 3. Instead of making a profile patch them as dimmers and be done with it. Make 3 handles one red one green and one blue and run the console the same way you would run a ETC console grab all values and record your cue

The playback faders will not work as submasters for recording cues without some extra button pushing, you will have to suck the values into the programmer. (active enter in hog 2)

pig touch works fine on the hog 3 as long as the lights are selected that will put the dimmer value into the programer so you can record a cue

There are many ways to get the info into the programmer....(H3 Mode)

If you are building looks with "faders," make a group with every fixture you are going to use. You can then press the palette and then touch to pull that information.

You can also:
Live Touch - Selects all fixtures with an intensity over 0% into the programmer
Live Int Touch - touches all INTENSITY parameters that are live

Perhaps i should have specified more. I have two weeks with simply the software on a desktop. Yes, I understand the point about learning color mixing, and I don't really have any issues with it. But that being said, controlling desk channels looks quite aggravating on this system, so it's just a matter of me wanting to reduce my stress level. The actual show console has touch screens only, no wings. HOG2 is not installed on the PC running the widget and screens, and the gentleman I'm renting it from would not appreciate me doing so.

Also, I'm guessing there is no way of getting a grid view of my channels?

Go into preferences and change the "SCENES" default to HTP. Then you can build "submasters" using scenes and load them into faders for '1-look fader'.

Pull up the "OUTPUT" screen and press the button for "Desk Channels." If it's too much info, press "COMPACT" and it will only show the Intensity parameter making it much smaller.

**To find OUTPUT, hold down OPEN (hold shift and click open to hold it down), OUTPUT will appear on the bottom of the "right" screen.
