Yet Another New Guy

Hi, all - I'm a high school theater teacher in Northampton, MA. I teach all the acting and directing courses, the Stagecraft course, and even a Film Studies class. I'm the entire theater department (they hired me a few years ago to start a theater program), and I'm also the theater manager for our 700 seat auditorium. So I advise the student techs who run all the events that come in here.

As I'm sure you know, it's real difficult being both the "acting" guy and the "tech" guy. While I have some tech experience, my kids are usually miles ahead of me in terms of understanding and running things - the student techs have traditionally been very strong at this school, and have been wonderful to work with, but virtually all of the experienced ones graduated this year. My student TD, ("Florple" on ControlBooth.com), actually just began a thread about attracting new students to our tech group - I want to thank everyone who contributed replies - you've given us some great ideas!

I came across Control Booth a couple of weeks ago, while googling madly to get answers about the right kind of clamps, pipes, etc. to build a pipe grid for my theater studio/classroom. I've since gotten that information locally, but I'm real glad to have found you guys - Florple and I plan to spend some time lurking and learning!

Hey, don't just lurk, jump into the discussions. The best way to learn from us is to be active in the community! Sure there is lots of great info on the site, but every new/alternate opinion just adds more flavor and insight into the solutions to the problems we face. Enjoy it here!
