Audio Jack Screw Size

Hello all,

What is the hole/screw size of a standard audio jack. I need to screw a jack into a piece of wood, so riveting is out of the option. I could just go to home depot with the jack and try random screws, but I would like to have some idea of where to start.

For clarification I need the screw size for the top left and bottom right of this

Thanks!

IIRC, those hole were probably drilled and countersunk to accept a number 4 flat head machine screw. Most wood screws have larger threads that may not fit down into the hole right though. I have, in the past, drilled out the hole a little bit to accept a number 6 pan head wood screw. Your best bet though is to take the jack to the hardware store and find something that fits.

# 4 wood screw: No. The taper of a wood screw makes them strip too easily. Get #4 tapping screws, which are tapered only on the point.

If the back is accessible, another option is 4-40 machine screws, with a washer and nut on the back of each.

Down here we've all been using M3 hardware for years... That won't fix your desire for a self tapper, but should give you a starting point for size...

Depending on what you are mounting the connector to , it may be that a connector dish is a better option, it's easier to get right than drilling the right size hole for an XLR (22mm) and still being able to get good purchase on the screws...

^^ This is a good point. A connector dish or wall plate with a low voltage bracket would be my preferred choice.
