American DJ DJ Scan 250 erratic

Hi,

New guy here. I sent the following to American DJ:

Hello,

I purchased a used American DJ DJ Scan 250 (serial 4632238). I am using an Enttec USB-DMX Pro with the latest firmware (v. 1.44), and LightFactory Basic (v. 1.4.0.047). I also have 4 Eliminator ED-15 Dimmers.

The problem I am encountering is the DJ Scan 250 will respond correctly when commanded by the DMX system, but it starts randomly scrolling the color wheel and the gobo wheel. The wheels will settle back to the correct color and gobo, but continue to scroll at random. I also see a lot of random twitching in the mirror.

The dimmers work flawlessly. I have a terminator on the last dimmer. I have tried various cables and configurations. I have even setup with a 2 foot cable to the DJ Scan and the terminator in the DMX Out. Nothing I do will allow the DJ Scan to be stable.

What else can you suggest?

And this was the response:

"The Dj Scan is known to twitch a bit but I can only say t compare it with another DMX Controller."

Is this correct for this fixture? Is there any hope of stabilizing it/ Is this a typical response designed to urge me to purchase a new fixture?

Thanks in advance for any insight into this issue.

Hi, I'm just googling around trying to learn how to get my American DJ scan 250 to work.

I have the same problem!

I have 4 scans of this type, all of them behave the same way.

Master-slave connecting with DMX cables (the first scan is driving the three others) works OK.

Connected to PC with "MiniDMX" controller = strange behavior. Listens to signals, but then moves crazy and fast in a random way...

I have cut the ground in the DMX cable (because I thought there could be a ground-loop), but with no effect. Reducing the baud rate of virtual COM port for USB controller=no effect again. My other lights and lasers work with this controller perfectly.. I use DMX Control as a software.

Does anyone have any idea? Thanx!

I believe you have a timing problem, enttec usually has the firmware in their dongles programmed to give the maximum refresh rate allowed. However cheaper lights such as the Amercan DJ Scan 250 can't handle this fast rate and they freak out. I'm not sure if there is a way to change the timing though a utility that enttec provides or you may need a firmware change to slow the rate down. Call enttec and I'm sure they can help you as I heard of other people having the same issue and enttec sent them a special firmare update that changes the timing.
