1U Rackmount CD-Player

I want to buy two 1u rack mount cd players. I'm considering the Tascam CD-01U, CD-01U Pro and also Denon's C620. Any other suggestions?

Also, I have used a Denon C635, and I LOVED the track selector knob! Do you know if the C620 uses the same knob? (Think my decission will be made if thats the case...)

Thanks.

Yes--same track selector knob. FWIW I have both the tascams CD01UPro and the denon 620's--both are very good units overall for performance.

Oh--probably should note however on the Denons--if you are looking to trigger both decks for simultanious playback from the IR remote (for one live, and one redundant backup to switch over in case of skipping)--one IR remote will not trigger both decks at the same time. But it will on the tascams. There may be a sync function to set them up with which I am not fully aware of...not really sure. I rarely get the dual deck request from a dance company to run a backup at the same time in sync..probably once a year....but that was one thing I noted when I first got them...

The Tascams both trigger off the same IR remote--but not the Denons... ONE remote will operate both Denon decks--just not the same command on both decks will trigger. If you hit PLAY on the remote one will play and the other will re0cue the track. Odd....

If you have the space, I suggest avoiding 1RU CD players. The roller mechanism can scratch discs. Any dirt on one disc gets spread across the surface and onto other discs. Most radio stations have learned to avoid 1 RU machines for these reasons.

A drawer loader is kind to discs, which is why that design was the only one used for the CD's first 25 years of life.

Are you forgetting the silly "put the disc in a caddy, and stick the caddy in the slot" short-lived Apple design?

I think I still have one of those drives...now to find a Thunderbolt-SCSI adapter...

Might it be a better idea to use the fader start input line on the CD player instead of the IR remote? Seems to me that would be more reliable...

I'm not recommending this for a show but most consumer DVD players take up only 1ru. Plus they generally can play a plethora of formats and they can easily be found in a drawer loading version. The only downsides are if you are using with out a screen be sure to make sure you like the user interface on the box and they will need a shelf or something to sit on.

You also have no pitch adjustment or single/continue option.
In addition the warranty is voided by commercial use.

Maybe I don't do sound enough because I don't consider the pitch adjustment(digital pitch bend as opposed to just speeding it up right?) vital.
I think voiding the warranty is something most people will just thumb their noses at.
