Control/Dimming LMI Rack Information

I was wondering does anyone have some information (anecdotal, manual scans, etc) about LMI dimmer rack? I've inherited two 36 dimmer touring racks and I'm interested in repair (including the cannibal variety of repair) and the availability of spare parts.

L-86 racks? Or racks made from SD-12 packs? EM64 or EM264 control modules? Either way, we may have someone here on CB who knows something about them.;)

Have you tried ETC at 1-800-688-4116?

Hum, I'll have to take a closer look at the rack to get the specifics on the control module. The dimmer pack in front of me is labelled LMI Model RD-1000, manufactured May 8, 1984.

Those are LMI SD-24 (2400 watts per channel) or SD-36 (3600 watts per channel) packs stacked in a "pseudo-rack" arrangement.

Should be 10 pin Cinch-Jones on the control.

Pins 1-6--Channels 1-6
Pins 7- NC
Pin 8 Common
Pins 9-10 NC

(if my aging brain cells remember correctly)

Draws 1mA or less per channel.

For the inline connectors, part numbers are
P310CCT for male (plug)
S310CCT for female (socket).
This vendor lists either for 10.50 USD. You might also source them from Allied, Newark, Mouser, and so on; your favorite ETC dealer, or ETC itself at 1-800-688-4116.

If you desire to use these dimmers with a modern (DMX512) lighting control console, you'll need a DMX-to-analog protocol converter. Two favorites around here are the Fleenor DMX24ANL and Northlight Systems 24 Channel converter. If you can find one used, the long-discontinued ETC Response 32 is excellent also. See also the collaborative article DIY DMX: Demux, Protocol Converters, etc. - ControlBooth .

If you don't desire a modern console, but still want to buy new, the Leprecon LP-600/24 is available with an analog-output option. Or a used LP-500/24.

What a hipster/retro/groovy font in the LMI logo.:) Wonder why they stopped using that?

We know lots about that rack. ETC phone support can help.

I can confirm this. Despite their age, ETC still sells parts for these racks. And for the parts that they can no longer sell a one for one replacement (presumably due to lack of parts, or code requirements) , they sell retrofit kits.
