Looking to build a lightweight canoe outrigging type boat that can hold 3 dancers? Any ideas?

Can it be solid, like always up side down, or solid bottom, always right side up? People build boats for boating use of foam, glue, and canvas, and strong enough for that.

How light? One person easy carry or two not quite so easy?

Does it need a bottom, or does it get paddled around? Are the dancers sitting in it, or standing on the gunwales? Does it need to be transportable? If so what are the limiting dimensions of the method of transport?

I would like to keep the weight down. Will use wheels to carry on stage as the dancers will be rotate the boat 360 on stage. Looking for a canoe with an outrigger. All ideas welcome

Do you have a picture of what you want it to look like? I paddle a canoe a lot and have never used an outrigger. Like this?

I was not suggesting "prefab" canoe - just trying to get a sense of first nation dugout or 21st century kevlar. It would I think affect the construction of a prop. And are the dancers "in" the canoe or "on it"?

I like this one for theatre - a duct tape boat - with an outrigger!

Hey, Y'all! I moved this over to Scenery, Props and Stage rigging as the New member forum is really for "howdy" messages. Just a house keeping thing.

@Jamielee when you get a chance go back to the New Member forum and post a thread about who you are, what you do, how you found CB and how wonderful it is to be here !

I would like to clarify a couple more things, before we drown poor @Jamielee in questions.

Sounds like this will be used in a musical dance number, Yes? People will be standing in it / on it? Are you looking for a Polynesian style outrigger canoe? Like the beginning of Hawaii 5-0 <The old one>
To go with the last question, Old? New? Old style that should look new?

From the initial questions and answers it sounds like the dancers are rolling it out into place then dancing around it. Is that correct?
The only thing that concerns me with any of this is the idea of Dancers being in the canoe when it moves. If they are seated that is one thing, if they are standing or God forbid, Dancing, while the boat is moving that could spell disaster for all.

"I'll add what is it suppose to look like? Birchbark canoe? Wood? Aluminum? Kevlar?"

So all we know is that you need an OC-3 on wheels.

Light weight and dancers outside of boat. You could build it like a wood slat canoe. I have built similar using cedar 1x6 planks rip to 1/4". I taped the formers and used superglue and an accelerator so it sets in 5 seconds. about 1" at each former. Sand with belt sander, then wrap the outside in fiberglass and epoxy. Remove formers and coat the inside. You could leave in some of the formers (no tape) or or cut the center of the former out to make "ribs".
