Two Colortran ENR posts in one day?!

Hi All,

So we also are involved in a troubleshooting session today with the ENR 96 sys.

We're trying to get an OBS II to run an ENR 96 rack.

Got the signal LED on both control mods and non-dim DIPs are all off but can't get control. Four or so dimmer mids are behaving like they're in NonDim mode, however. Like we're in Panic mode, but we haven't found any of the Panic DIPs switches on in the rack's interior...

Some Lo-Vo switches are ON even though their corresponding Panic switches are not.

We reset both modules. Any ideas?

You mention in your other ENR post that you were using a Status console.

Any chance the rack (and Status) are set to Colortran CMX protocol ?.

I've as well no clue how to set an ENR to DMX.
We're different group of guys! To my knowledge, the ENR auto-senses the control protocol.

It feels like we're somehow stuck in Panic mode, even when we reset both control mods.

The Panic/Lo-Vo DIPS aren't consistent with each other as well.

Here is a link to the installation manual for the 96 Rack. Yes the ENR sort-of auto senses CMX vs DMX

Yes there is functionality for a panic switch, which should not be active if there is not one installed.

Ive had problems depending on which control module you have, where the module with the (drawing a blank; the on the wall controls... yes little sleep) capability has lost its programming and will do exactly what you are talking about. You need someone with an old computer and the correct software and such to fix it. Not fun. And thats if the memory is not fried.

With my Colortran ENR 96 I am using a Status 24/48 light board with CMX protocol. However on the Status board I can go into the settings and change the protocol to DMX. The rack just usually sits there and the green control lights on the rack control mods just blink if I put it in to 512 protocol. Also I loose the programming from the CMX and have to reprogram the board when I set it back to CMX protocol. That may be do to the fact that the small quarter size battery in my Status board is going week and I am planning on replacing it very soon. One day though when the theater that my Colortran ENR 96 Dimmer rack is located was rented out to an outside group they brought in a ETC computerized board that uses DMX 512 plugged it in to our rack and the rack communicated with that board. So I know there is a way to get the ENR 96 racks to communicate with DMX 512 but I am not an expert on how to do that. I am sure there are people on here that could explain that in a hart beat.

Good Luck and keep us updated

As I said in a post to the other ENR thread, your best resource is Steve Short at http://www.litetrol.com/.
Give him a call and if he can, I'm sure he will help you.

I have a friend that runs an ENR who went through changing consoles. My vague recollection is that some ENRs were built for both CMX and DMX, and some were built only for CMX, and require a small circuit modification to work with DMX. The ENR was in production through the time frame that DMX came along and slowly became the standard.
