Envelopes from Fly Space?

Yeah we talked about this quite in depth. Some great ideas floating around. From complex rocker box ( my idea) to someone throwing them from off stage.

I need an effect where envelopes fall to the ground from the fly space. Sort of like snow. Any thoughts?

This will take two battens, eye bolts (1/4-20 with a one inch hole), paperclips and tie line. On one batten affix eye bolts (or screw) horizontal so they stick out sideways. (probably use a 1x2 and 2" electrical mini's to hold it to the batten, be creative).

Next tie lengths of tie line to the next batten (maybe 10' long, experiment) now thread it through the eye bolt on the first batten so it slides up and down easily.

Tie the paper clips randomly so you get 6 to 10 on each tie line (probably a half hitch). then clip the letters to each paper clip. In other words you have a string of letters dangling on a string through an eye bolt and tied to the other batten.

As you raise the second batten the letters will pull out as they hit the eye bolt and pop off the paper clip raining down on the stage.

I haven't ever tried this (except on a quick test from my desk and it worked) . . . . . So it will either work great, with out a lot of building.

Or you all had fun reading this.....

Interesting. Way to do it. I would fret that maybe a paper clip might slip loose but that’s still a solid theory design if you can sacrifice two pipes.

Use the jumbo size regular paper clip, put a slip knot in the line and actually feed the clip thrugh the knot. It can't pull off.

A quick "napkin" sketch of a letter drop from college.
