Holographic laser effects!?! This looks sick!!! The last minute especially.

Anyone know what gear was used to do this?

Discuss! :p

Well that was pretty cool.

Thanks for the link! Didn't think to check Reddit. I had a feeling it must have had something to do with the camera in conjunction with the lasers... how else could you literally freeze segments of light in midair? Too bad it isn't an effect that can be viewed with the naked eye, that would be a game changer for sure. Still looks awesome though.

I don't see any discussion of atmospherics in the Reddit thread. They seem to have a very nice, fine distribution of luminous haze. I'm assuming this technique would not work without that, unless they got in touch with those researchers at MIT and are using trillion-frame-per-second cameras... ;-)

Do colored lasers mix additively? I wondered if you could get two different colors to intersect and create some of that look live.

The effect reminded me of something I saw on Facebook. This isn’t the exact video but you get the idea.

Imagine using a wall of these for some sort of effect and here they are using it for simple advertising. SMH.

Yes? https://www.rp-photonics.com/rgb_sources.html
"Different approaches can be taken to construct RGB sources. One possibility is to use three lasers, each emitting light with the wanted color. The problem is, however, that visible lasers are severely limited in performance compared with their near-infrared counterparts."
Not sure that you could take advantage of that to create a 3D effect.

I've seen that as well. https://kino-mo.com/#how-it-works
Creates a very cool illusion. Now if we can just get an actor to appear in the middle of the illusion... "Here, just stand in front of this giant spinning death machine..."
