New Year, New Venue, New Adventures

Hello all!

It's been a year since my last post here (sorry, couldn't resist). I hope everyone is enjoying the New Year so far.

I've recently been asked to design the lighting for a show in a space I'm not very familiar with (this is actually the first show I've designed the lighting for that isn't at my high school.) I'll be visiting the space tomorrow and I've compiled a list of things I should ask about such as What types of fixtures are available? What's the inventory as a whole looking like? What are the available lighting positions? (based on google images, there are some interesting places where light is coming from so I'm excited to check that out.) and a few more.

Are there any other things I should be asking about?

Thank you in advance and I hope everyone enjoys the rest of their new year.

What board they have. Who will be doing the hang you or the house staff and what’s allowed to move and not if there is a rep plot. What colors are available.

Of course is there a master plot printed out.

Thank you. For a second there, I was almost tempted to answer those questions until I realized what my question was. Lol

1) When do you gain access to the space? Is it 2 hours or 2 days before doors.
2) is there additional power in case you bring in other equipment
3) what if any data network is there? It’s great that they might have a lot of power, but doesn’t necessarily help if there is no way to get control to where you want it.

@ademhayyu1 Are there dimmers? If so, how many and what wattages??
Is there DMX??? How many universes???? How is their DMX distributed?????
What, if any, accessories do they have?????? Barn doors, four way, eight way, different lens and lens tubes??????? Gobo rotators???????? Motion wheels????????? Spare lamps?????????? Is EVERYTHING in good, servicable, repair and ready to rock or will you have weeks of maintenance to perform prior to hanging your production???????????

Measure everything you can( if you don’t have accurate plans). How far is the house pipe from the stage, what’s the angle. Etc.

Where are circuits/dimmers available.

Where is the loading dock in relation to the stage.

@ademhayyu1 @JChenault And the size of the loading dock door; height, width and diagonal plus height above ground level and any restrictions on types and sizes of vehicles which may be conveniently accomodated such as: Can you back your 53' trailer up to the dock and leave its diesel engine idling 24 / 7 without annoying the neighbors and or filling the venue with diesel fumes.

If you're doing the hang, do you need to have an insurance certificate, and what constraints does that place on any of your helpers?

If there *is* additional power, and you're going to need it, how do you tie in, and do you need to bring a pagoda box/distro of your own?

And, just as a meta observation: I'd recommend knowing what all your questions *are*... and seeing how many get answered before you have to start asking; that will tell you something all by itself.
