Work Lights for Rehearsals and Build

Good morning everyone!

I am inquiring as to what you all prefer as a work light in your theatres. I have received a Grant and am looking to upgrade our lighting, and also wanted to save on electricity as well.

Thanks for your opinions!

@Rod Oden A few queries and comments:
- Do they need to dim or only operate at 100% and off?
- Do they need to provide emergency illumination in the event of a power failure??
- Permanently installed / hard-wired in conduit or plugging into existing power / dimmers???
- How high (what's the throw distance) is your ceiling / mounting position???? (This goes to how many you require to cover your area)
- How important is color temperature; skin tones, judging makeup, painting sets and judging colors?????
- How important is noise level / ballast hum??????
_ High pressure sodium provides a lot of light at little operational cost but you'd find the color atrocious.
- Metal halide is also quite economical to operate per hour, extremely bright, not too ugly for color, buzz somewhat as the ballasts age BUT you'll feel like you're working in a steel mill; they also require warm-up time to reach 100% then, when you turn them off, they'll require cool-down time BEFORE they'll re-light.
- Are you leaning towards LED's???????
- If so; dimming, color temperature and initial costs need to be carefully considered.
- Whenever possible organize demo's IN YOUR SPACE at your height / throw distance and live with your demo for a few days if feasible.

To answer your questions:
1. I would prefer they be able to dim, but not necessarily required.
2. These need to be controlled through our lighting system, so no on emergency lighting.
3. Plugging in to existing Non-DIm or dimmable power.
4. 18' to the Grid, 50'x50' Blackbox space
5. & 6. Not important, these are just to illuminate for rehearsals and work.

I would prefer LEDs, but I am open to Halogen solutions as well...

Thanks for your input

I'm quite fond of the Osram Fl-x, with great color renditionbbut there are others. You may not need as bright. Can't hurt to check out local big box building stores. Kind of amazing what you can get for so little

Ditto. (But I am completely biased. :) ) KREIOS FLX 90W LED shown above.

Why dimmable ?

And apparently in Osram world, safety cable s are invisible.
.
@derekleffew Clearly you're unaware of @DELO72 's self-balancing, gyroscopically ultra stabilized, auto-hovering gravity defying option.
Possibly tariffs restrict its availability on your side of Donald's walls? (I suspect @DELO72 's company developed it in association with Wescam /L3 Engineering long famous for their rock-solid gyroscopically stabilized aerial reconnaissance mounts amongst other items best not spoken of on the open internet.
