I saw this mentioned in another thread briefly and I can't remember where now. I would like to give my theater the opportunity to have wireless music control from a phone. I would like to be able to give the controller (mostly myself) the ability to plug into a Shure beltpack so I can walk around the space while maintaining control. I looked at purchasing a cord for this but all of the reviews seem to say they didn't work. Can this be wired directly? I don't mind soldering something up. I can't find a good pinout example for this. Am I missing something? Does it need to be pre-amped? Thanks in advance.

If I'm understanding this, you want to play music from your phone, which is to be connected to the belt pack transmitter so you can be mobile. Okay, I think it's do-able.

Shure WA-310 cable, and Rapco Horizon LTIBLOX. The LTIBLOX plugs into your phone or ipodishness, sums left & right in Glorious Worker Mono Paradise, provides a level control and balanced, mic level output.

The pair are about $52 from a popular on-line retailer named for a river.

@Tech Ninja What you're missing is the need to sum your phone's stereo headphone level output to mono prior to connecting it into your monophonic belt pack's microphone level input as @TimMc has already posted. The last time this was discussed at length we discussed the problems of the unbalanced stereo source cancelling out all sounds panned down the centre when connected to a single monophonic input. I suspect that other thread you're remembering was here on the Control Booth Forum.

Short Version: ControlBooth to the rescue again! Thank you all. I completely understand now.

Long version: I can't thank you enough. We're in crunch time for a show (something about a small sea-girl with a tail). I'm so wrapped up in it and getting my students on track with construction, lights, and sound designs that I can't think straight. Obviously I didn't even have my head on straight enough to recognize that I said "preamp" when rather I need to reduce the signal from line to mic level. DUH. Thank you gentlemen. One more question answered, one more day made it through.

I would definitely go with the ta4f to xlr and use an ltiblock from there as mentioned already. You could use to ta4f to 1/4" and adapt that to 1/8" but the LTI is my method of choice for this.

A caution here. Several brands of wireless use the TA4F connector, and there is no standard pinout. A miss-wired adapter can apply DC bias bias to the 3.5mm plug. It could damage whatever you connect it to. Unless the adapter says it is made for your specific wireless brand, don't use it.

I know this thread is now old, but here's my solution. (assuming this is about listening to the PA and not playing sound cues live during a show)

I have a laptop or iPad at the mix position running either Spotify or iTunes.
I carry my iPhone and open either Spotify or iTunes Remote.
Then you can remotely control your music with your phone but the actual music is playing directly from the mix position.

I suppose it would work, I've trigged qlab via their app on my tablet to the control computer. But I wouldn't use it on critical things because I've lost connection and ultimately the second of latency is more than I find acceptable. You'd have some of the same issues with a remote connection, you'd just have to determine what is an acceptable amount of lag and if the connection is strong enough for your needs.
